“Serial.” Serial Podcast, Season 1 Episode 1, 2014.To summarize the first episode of Serial titled “ The Alibi”, Sarah Koenig had the chance to interview some key people in the timeline of Adnan’s alibi and ran over some evidence included in Adnan’s alibi. “New documents likely to prove Adnan Syed is guilty.” Her. “Serial podcast rehabilitated a schoolgirl’s murderer, so where’s the feminist outrage?” Ann R Brocklehurst Blog April 21, 2015. Adnan coincidentally does not remember the day, meanwhile, there are testimonies against him and evidence from Hae’s diary, conflicts with his alibi, and the fact that Jay Wilds story matches the call logs. With the current information on the case, it is most logical. In conclusion, I believe is the most reasonable suspect, and with the evidence shown, I believe he is guilty. How could Jay have known the cell logs without being shown them, unless, he had Adnan’s phone, and was with Adnan when Adnan had his phone. The cell logs and Jay’s timeline match up almost perfectly. Jay’s timeline also matches up with the cell phone logs, which is the conclusive evidence that Jay’s timeline leads to. Jay has a whole timeline, which Adnan has a very general timeline that seems to be his “every day” timeline. Now, this is part of the reason Adnan’s inability to recall this day becomes a factor. Jay Wilds has a whole timeline of the events, which can be seen on the Serial Podcast website. Lastly, Jay Wilds testimony and interviews are a major factor, and this time, it leads to conclusive evidence. The classmate states that Asia said she “would make up a lie to prove it (his innocence).” This means would contradict the only alibi Syed has, moreover, this alibi is not even conclusive. Next, this email from a classmate of Asia McClain, found by The Baltimore Son, warns that Asia was lying about her alibi. While it is also not conclusive evidence, it definitely contradicts that “nice kid” that Adnan was. It seems that he was possessive, almost controlling, during the relationship, outlining what could and could not be done. This also works against Adnan’s portrayed character. How dare he get mad at me for planning to hang out with Lesha.” I need time for myself and with my friends other than him. Although I love him it’s not like I need him. It’s like making him choose between me and his religion. I knew he was only joking, but it’s somewhat true. Next, a classmate named Debbie testifies at the trial. Hae was probably scared of Adnan and what he may do if he encountered her. I believe this is because of Adnan’s character, who Hae described as manipulating. Hae had apparently called the teacher, Ms Schab, and told her that she was hiding from Adnan with another teacher (Testimony report can be seen below). The next piece of evidence that supports my opinion is a teacher’s testimony during the trial. Now this is not conclusive evidence either, but it does go against Adnan’s portrayed character of being a genuinely nice person. The note was written after the couple’s second-to-last breakup, and the words “I’m going to kill” written by Adnan can be seen very clearly at the top of the page. Now, one of the biggest reasons that leads me to believe Adnan Syed is guilty is the break-up note between him and Hae (Picture can be seen below). This definitely is not fair terms to declare someone guilty, but it seems more likely that Adnan would kill Hae as opposed to Jay, who would have much less reason. He would have been emotionally hurt, and this could drive someone to commit an atrocious act. Next, the motives have a very small factor. This is definitely not a deciding factor on Adnan’s innocence but it does raise questions on top of other points that will be discussed. If Adnan truly cannot recall the day then it does not work towards his case. It is impossible to know whether or not Adnan is telling the truth, however, it is very convenient that he does not remember the day. However, it is most reasonable for me to believe Adnan murdered Hae.įirstly, Adnan says he does not recall the day.

The case, in general, is full of unanswered questions.

Narrator Sarah Koenig believes that this case was unfair, and rightfully so, as Syed did go to jail with very little evidence, but evidence nonetheless. On the podcast, “Serial,” Adnan Syed’s case is deeply examined.
